The underground quarry site under the museum is a huge underground space with an area of about 20,000 square meters. This space was made by quarrying Oya stone since 1919 and at present it is open to the public as a history museum. This museum received Cool Japan Award in 2017.

Access form Kitakanto Expressway: About 40 minutes (20 km) by car from Utsunomiya/ Kaminokawa IC, about 30 minutes (18 km) from Mibu IC

Take a bus bound for Oya Tateiwa from Bus Stop 6 at JR Utsunomiya Station West Exit. About 30 mins.
Take a bus bound for Oya Tateiwa from Tobu Ekimae Bus Stop at Tobu Utsunomiya Station. About 20 mins.
Get off at Museum Entrance bus stop. About 5 minutes’ walk.
Oya tourist one day pass is recommended for visitors using route buses. You can get on and off at any bus stops on the route and get various discounts. You can get this ticket at either JR Utsunomiya Station’s commuter pass center or at the front desk of Utsunomiya Tobu Hotel Grande.

Parking lot※The No. 1 parking lot in front of the entrance (for 40 cars) is designated for buses for groups and handicapped and elderly persons.
※ Group buses need to make a reservation to use the No. 1 parking lot. Without reservation, 1,000 yen per bus is required as a parking fee.
※Parking lots of No. 2 (for 200 cars), No. 3 (for 40 cars) and No. 4 (for 70 cars) are designated for other individual visitors. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
